About
Founded in 1971, The Child Development Resource Center of the Central Coast (CDRC) has served over 9,800 children and their families by implementing our mission to: Provide therapeutic early childhood education and mental health programs that focus on protecting children through our commitment to heal, support and strengthen families within San Luis Obispo County for the prevention and treatment of child abuse in all of its forms. This award-winning center serves a very high-needs population. We primarily serve children who – through no fault of their own – come from traumatic circumstances including; poverty and/or homelessness, multiple foster care placements, domestic violence, child abuse, parental addiction (including children who are addicted prenatally), and mental health disorders. We receive preschool and therapy referrals from the community including families transitioning into or out of probation, child welfare services, local family resource centers, and other nonprofit community partners. We also provide support for children in foster care and foster/adopt situations. Our early education program is divided among four classrooms: two toddler rooms, a preschool room, and a pre-kindergarten room which all provide assessments every six months. For older children, we have a school readiness/transition curriculum for those entering kindergarten. We also administer a child nutrition program, which provides 80% of each child’s daily nutritional needs including breakfast, lunch and wholesome snacks, prepared on site.
